Ember turns your crypto into spendable naira. This page explains, in plain terms, what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices that stay yours.

1. Introduction
Ember (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an app for turning your crypto into spendable naira. You can deposit supported crypto, watch live naira rates, cash out to any Nigerian bank, send money to other Ember users, and pay for airtime, data, electricity and cable TV straight from your balance.
This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Ember app and this website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have along the way. We’ve tried to keep it honest and readable. Using Ember means you agree to what’s written here. Ember is built for adults, so you need to be 18 or older to use it.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your first and last name and your email address, which you give us when you create an account.
- Security credentials. A password, a transaction PIN, or both. We only ever store these as scrambled, one-way hashes, so we can’t see them or work them back out. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we get a verified sign-in token from them instead of a password, and we never see your Google or Apple password.
- Payout details. When you cash out to a bank, the recipient bank, the account number, and the account name the bank hands back. Save a beneficiary and we keep those details so you can reuse them next time.
- Bill payment details. The phone number you’re topping up when you buy airtime or data.
- Anything you send us. Messages you send when you contact support, and how you use your referral code.
Information created when you use Ember
- Wallet and deposit data. The crypto deposit addresses we set up for your account, and the on-chain deposits we spot arriving at them.
- Balances and transactions. Your naira and crypto balances, plus a history of your deposits, withdrawals, transfers and bill payments. Each record notes the amount, the token, the network, the rate we applied, the time, and whether it went through.
- Your Ember ID and profile.
Information we collect automatically
- Device and connection data. Your device type and operating system, the app version, your IP address, and basic diagnostic and usage logs. These keep the service secure and help us fix things when they break.
- Push token. If you turn on notifications, a token that lets us send alerts to your device, like a nudge when a deposit lands.
We don’t use advertising trackers or third-party analytics, and we never sell your data.
Device permissions
The app only asks for these when it needs them, and you can say no or change your mind later in your device settings.
- Contacts. Only when you tap to pick someone while buying airtime, so you don’t have to type a number by hand. We use the number you choose for that one top-up, and we don’t upload your contacts.
- Notifications. So we can send you transaction and account alerts.
- Face ID and biometrics. To unlock the app and confirm sensitive actions. That check happens entirely on your device through iOS or Android. Your biometric data never leaves your phone, and we never receive it.
3. How we use your information
- To create your account, keep it secure, and check it’s really you, including the one-time codes we email you.
- To set up your deposit addresses and credit each deposit in naira at the rate the moment it lands.
- To carry out your withdrawals to banks, your transfers to other Ember users, and your bill payments.
- To show you your balances, your history, and live rates.
- To send you service messages, and, if you’ve switched them on, push and email notifications.
- To spot, look into, and stop fraud, abuse, and anything else harmful or illegal, and to meet the legal and record-keeping duties that come with handling money.
- To answer your questions and keep improving the app.
5. Crypto, wallets and the blockchain
The deposit addresses tied to your account are created for you through our wallet provider. Anything that happens on a public blockchain (Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Solana, and the tokens on them) is public and permanent by design. Once a transaction is broadcast, its addresses and amounts are visible to anyone, and Ember can’t delete or reverse it. So please only send supported assets, and only on supported networks.
6. Data retention
We hold on to your information for as long as your account is open, and for as long as we genuinely need it for the reasons above. Because Ember handles money, some transaction records have to stay with us for several years to satisfy financial and anti-money-laundering laws, even after you close your account. Once we no longer need something, we delete it or strip out anything that identifies you.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction. See and update your profile right in the app. For anything you can’t change yourself, just ask us.
- Notifications. Turn push notifications off in your device settings, and email notifications off in the app, whenever you like.
- Delete your account. You can ask us to delete your account and personal data at any time. Our Delete your account page walks you through it. We’ll remove what we’re not legally required to keep. As explained above, some transaction records stay with us a little longer.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or limit certain uses of your data, or to take a copy with you. Reach out and we’ll help.
8. Security
Protecting your money and your information is something we take seriously, and we put real work into keeping your account safe. You have a part to play too: keep your password, PIN, and device to yourself, and if you ever think someone else has gotten into your account, tell us right away so we can act.
9. International transfers
Some of the partners who help run Ember handle data outside Nigeria. Whenever your information travels abroad, we take steps to keep it as protected as it is at home, in line with this policy and the law.
10. Children
Ember isn’t for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has signed up, let us know and we’ll take the account down.
11. This website
This site uses only the cookies it needs to work, and runs no advertising trackers. Some links here (the App Store, TestFlight, the Android beta form) lead to other companies’ sites, each with its own privacy policy.
12. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy now and then. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top, and for anything important, we’ll give you a heads-up in the app or by email before it takes effect.
13. Contact us
Questions, a request, or a privacy complaint? We’d genuinely like to hear from you. Email us at support@usecowrie.app.
